Honduras FOOD

Hondurans usually have a large, hearty breakfast. It typically consists of fried eggs (whole or scrambled), refried beans, Honduran salty sour cream (mantequilla), hard olancho cheese, avocado, sweet fried plantains, and tortillas. It is common for most households to first prepare tortillas, a staple for nearly every dish, which are used throughout the rest of the day.

Other breakfast favorites include carne asada (roasted meat) and Honduran spicy sausages (chorizo). A good breakfast will be accompanied with hot, dark—in this case Honduran-grown—coffee. Honduran coffee is renowned for its delicate qualities, being grown on the slopes of the Honduran mountains over rich soils of volcanic origin. A specific brand famous for its flavour comes from the Honduran region of Marcala, others being the Copán coffee and the one grown in Ocotepeque.[citation needed]

Street vendors often sell breakfast baleadas made of flour tortillas, toppings such as eggs, meat, and even pickled onions, and small tamales made of sweet yellow corn dough, called tamalitos de elote, eaten with sour cream; fresh horchata and posole is also common.

The baleada is one of the most common street foods in Honduras. The basic style is made of a flour tortilla which is folded and filled with refried beans, quesillo or cheese and sour cream. Many people add roasted meat, avocado, plantains or scrambled eggs as well. There are Honduran Fast-food chains that serve different kinds of Baleadas. Rice and beans is a popular side dish in the Honduran Caribbean coast. The dish is typically cooked in coconut milk with cilantro and spices.Information from From Wikipedia

History of Presidents’ Day

Presidents-Day 3

Presidents’ Day is a United States federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February in honor of George Washington, the first President of the United States, who was born on February 22, 1732.  It can occur between February 15 through February 21.

The day is also now widely known as Presidents’ Day and is often an occasion to honor the incumbent president and all persons who have served as president, not just George Washington.

The day is a state holiday in most states, with official names including Washington’s BirthdayPresidents’ DayPresident’s Day, and Washington’s and Lincoln’s Birthday. Depending upon the specific law, the state holiday might officially celebrate Washington alone, Washington and Abraham Lincoln (whose birthday is February 12), or some other combination of U.S. presidents (such as Washington and the third president Thomas Jefferson, who was born in April).

The first attempt to create a Presidents Day occurred in 1951 when the “President’s Day National Committee” was formed by Harold Stonebridge Fischerof Compton, California, who became its National Executive Director for the next two decades. The purpose was not to honor any particular president but to honor the office of the presidency. It was first thought that March 4, the original inauguration day, should be deemed Presidents Day, but the bill recognizing March 4 stalled in the Senate Judiciary Committee (which had authority over federal holidays). The committee felt that, given its proximity to Lincoln’s and Washington’s Birthdays, three holidays so close together would be unduly burdensome. But meanwhile the governors of a majority of the states issued proclamations declaring March 4 Presidents’ Day in their respective jurisdictions.

An early draft of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act would have renamed the holiday “Presidents’ Day” to honor the birthdays of both Washington and Lincoln, which would explain why the chosen date falls between the two, but this proposal failed in committee, and the bill was voted on and signed into law on June 28, 1968, keeping the name “Washington’s Birthday”.

By the mid-1980s, with a push from advertisers, the term “Presidents’ Day” began its public appearance.

Turmeric Contains Bioactive Compounds With Powerful Medicinal Properties

Turmeric is the spice that gives curry its yellow color.

It has been used in India for thousands of years as a spice and medicinal herb.

Recently, science has started to back up what the Indians have known for a long time… it really does contain compounds with medicinal properties (1).

These compounds are called curcuminoids, the most important of which is curcumin.

Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant.

However, the curcumin content of turmeric is not that high… it’s around 3%, by weight (2).

Most of the studies on this herb are using turmeric extracts that contain mostly curcumin itself, with dosages usually exceeding 1 gram per day. It would be very difficult to reach these levels just using the turmeric spice in your foods.

Therefore, if you want to experience the full effects, then you need to take an extract that contains significant amounts of curcumin.

Unfortunately, curcumin is poorly absorbed into the bloodstream. It helps to consume black pepper with it, which contains piperine… a natural substance that enhances the absorption of curcumin by 2000% (3).

I personally prefer to swallow a few whole peppercorns along with my curcumin supplement, in order to enhance absorption.

Curcumin is also fat soluble, so it may be a good idea to take it with a fatty meal.

Curcumin is a Natural Anti-Inflammatory Compound

Turmeric Dramatically Increases The Antioxidant Capacity of The Body

Oxidative damage is believed to be one of the mechanisms behind aging and many diseases.

It involves free radicals, highly reactive molecules with unpaired electrons.

Free radicals tend to react with important organic substances, such as fatty acids, proteins or DNA.

The main reason antioxidants are so beneficial, is that they protect our bodies from free radicals.

Curcumin happens to be a potent antioxidant that can neutralize free radicals due to its chemical structure (1516).

But curcumin also boosts the activity of the body’s own antioxidant enzymes (171819).

In that way, curcumin delivers a one-two punch against free radicals. It blocks them directly, then stimulates the body’s own antioxidant mechanisms.

The Florida Resident Discover Disney special is a three-day ticket for $159 plus tax or a four-day ticket for $179 plus tax.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that it’s a 14 percent increase from the previous January offers in 2017 and 2016 when the three-day ticket cost $139 for Florida residents. However, Disney says there are no blockout dates this year.

Proof of Florida residency is required.

The tickets are valid for one park — Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot or Animal Kingdom — per day unless the tickets are upgraded to park hoppers, which cost an additional $30 plus tax on the three-day ticket and $37.50 plus tax on the four-day ticket.

Disneyland Loses Power on One of the Busiest Days of the Year

A power outage hit Disneyland in California, affecting dozens of attractions on Wednesday.

The outage started before 11 a.m. local time and hit Mickey’s Toontown and Fantasyland, according to a Disneyland representative.

As of early evening, power was restored “to all areas of the resort,” the company said, and Disneyland was expected to be “fully operational … as attractions come back online.”

Earlier, guests were escorted off rides until power was restored. A representative for the park said they were not aware of any people still stranded on rides.

The Anaheim Fire Department said it has not been tapped for any rescues.

“We escorted guests off of rides as part of standard procedure until the power was restored,” Disney representative Elva Rubalcava said, adding that power has been restored to a majority of the park, although some rides may still be affected.

The 85-acre theme park averages about 44,000 visitors a day, and holiday weeks are among its busiest times of the year.

Park officials attributed the outage to an issue with a resort transformer.

“We’ve determined that the issue is with a Disneyland Resort transformer and our team is currently assessing and working to restore power,” officials said in a statement released to KABC.

A representative for Disneyland said they do not plan to offer refunds to park visitors as of now.
