Dragon Float at Disney World Catches on Fire

Dragon Float at Disney World Catches on Fire

The dragon float in the Festival of Fantasy parade at Disney World caught fire on Friday, May 11, 2018. No one was injured.

Dragons are supposed to breathe fire, not catch on fire.  Usually this dragon doesn’t do much beyond tilting back and forth and occasionally releasing a puff of smoke and flame, but this time things went a little bit different.

Unfortunately, the robotic dragon float in Friday, May 11’s Festival of Fantasy Parade did catch fire. The Festival of Fantasy Parade is held at the Magic Kingdom park each afternoon.  Walt Disney World’s public affairs department confirmed the dragon float in its parade at the Magic Kingdom caught fire on that Friday afternoon.

The float, which was part of a “Maleficent”-themed creation, was stopped and cast members quickly moved guests away from the float and parade, Disney said.

The dragon’s entire skull was engulfed in flames as onlookers shot video, and it appears that most park visitors just thought that it was part of the show.  Disney cast members (employees) were able to quickly douse the flames using portable fire extinguishers, but a chunk of the dragon’s head later fell off as well, suggesting some pretty serious damage.  The fire was fully extinguished.

Park officials called the local fire department just to be on the safe side, but the dragon was already cooling off by the time they arrived.

No guests or cast members were injured (unless you count the dragon).  The robotic dragon will probably need a wee bit of refurbishing before it’s ready to join the parade again.

Maleficent is the main villain in “Sleeping Beauty,” in which she transforms into a dragon for battle with Prince Phillip.

“Maleficent” was also a live-action film released by Disney in 2014 and starred Angelina Jolie as the vengeful title character and Elle Fanning was cast as Aurora. Maleficent turns one of the characters in the film into a dragon at one point.

Hmmm, should Disney just make this part of the regular routine of the parade?  Just kidding!!  So thankful cast members were ready and prepared for that situation and acted quickly so no guests or employees were injured.

Eyebrown Threating

Eyebrow threading

Threading is a method of hair removal originating in Asia.[1] In more recent times it has gained popularity in Western countries, especially with a cosmetic application (particularly for removing/shaping eyebrows).

In threading, a thin (cotton or polyester) thread is doubled, then twisted. It is then rolled over areas of unwanted hair, plucking the hair at the follicle level. Unlike tweezing, where single hairs are pulled out one at a time, threading can remove short rows of hair.

Advantages cited for eyebrow threading, as opposed to eyebrow waxing, are that it provides more precise control in shaping eyebrows and is gentler on the skin. It can be painful as several hairs are removed at once: however this can be minimized if it is done correctly.[2]

There are a few different techniques for threading. These include the hand method, mouth method and neck. Each technique has advantages and disadvantages; however, the mouth holding method is the fastest and most precise.[citation needed]

Threading allows for a more defined and precise shape and can create better definition for eyebrows. It is also used as a method of removing unwanted hair on the entire face and upper lip area. Threading is not a good method for removing hair on arms or legs, as the hair in those regions is typically quite coarse and there is too much to remove.

OLIVE OIL

Olive oil is a liquid fat obtained from olives (the fruit of Olea europaea; family Oleaceae), a traditional tree crop of the Mediterranean Basin. The oil is produced by pressing whole olives. It is commonly used in cooking, whether for frying or as a salad dressing. It is also used in cosmeticspharmaceuticals, and soaps, and as a fuel for traditional oil lamps, and has additional uses in some religions. There is limited evidence of its possible health benefits. The olive is one of three core food plants in Mediterranean cuisine; the other two are wheat and grapes.

Olive trees have been grown around the Mediterranean since the 8th millennium BC. Spain is the largest producer of olive oil, followed by Italy and Greece. However, per capita consumption is highest in Greece, followed by Spain, Italy, and Morocco. Consumption in North America and northern Europe is far less, but rising steadily.

The composition of olive oil varies with the cultivar, altitude, time of harvest and extraction process. It consists mainly of oleic acid (up to 83%), with smaller amounts of other fatty acids including linoleic acid (up to 21%) and palmitic acid (up to 20%). Extra virgin olive oil is required to have no more than 0.8% free acidity and is considered to have favorable flavocharacteristics

Dining at Disney World’s Soon-to-Open Toy Story Land

Dining at Disney World’s Soon-to-Open Toy Story Land

Disney Toy Story

Disney fanatics are eagerly awaiting the opening of Toy Story Land at Walt Disney World on June 30—and they should come with a big appetite.

While Disneyland in California is getting the building version of the movie’s Pizza Planet restaurant, the Orlando park will be the home of Woody’s Lunch Box, a quick-service restaurant serving up savory sandwiches, creative desserts and specialty beverages.

Disney Woodys-Lunch-Box

The Chew‘s resident food experts Carla HallMichael Symon and Clinton Kelly got a preview of the fare on a recent show, tasting the BBQ Brisket Melt and a Chocolate-Hazelnut Lunchbox Tart (which is garnished with bacon)—and the reviews were overwhelmingly positive.

Other signature items include their version of a Monte Cristo with turkey, ham, raspberry jam and dijon mustard on griddled, custard-soaked brioche bread, and Totchos—tater tot nachos in the style of Frito Pie, basically—with a base of potato “barrels” topped with beef chili, queso, tomatoes, corn chips, sour cream and scallions.

And listen up, alchol lovers —  In addition to standard fountain drinks, adults can sip on six different beer options or their signature cocktail, the Grown Up’s Lemonade, made up of black cherry vodka, lemonade and black cherry purée. All drinks can be ordered in an Alien Sipper which features a light-up claw as seen in the film.

When they’re not eating, guests can ride the Slinky Dog Dash, a family-friendly coaster, and Alien Swirling Saucers, which appears to be a teacups-style spinner (though you might want to wait a bit after your meal before that one).

According to an earlier release from Disney, Toy Story Land will “transport guests into the adventurous outdoors of Andy’s backyard” and make them feel like they’ve shrunk down to the size of a toy.

Can’t wait to visit Toy Story Land and dine at Woody’s Lunch Box!!  Yay!
