Top 10 Foods To Avoid While Dieting

Top 10 Foods To Avoid While Dieting

86494725

Dieting is tough. Some of the tastiest foods also happen to be some of the most fattening and unhealthy. Knowing which foods to avoid while dieting is key to losing weight. Here are ten foods you should avoid while dieting.

1. Snack Cakes

Snack cakes are a dietiers worst enemy because they are tasty and convenient. Don’t let your fast paced life lead you down the road for diet disaster.

Fill your pantry with healthy snacks that are just as convenient as those sugary and fattening snack cakes.

2. Soda

Regular sodas are packed full of calories and have no nutritional value. That means the calories are empty, do not help you feel full or satisfied and only make you gain weight.

Diet sodas are no better, because they contain a lot of sodium which causes your body to retain water and look bloated. The best thing to drink while dieting is water and herbal teas.

3. Mayonnaise

Many people like to add mayonnaise to their sandwiches or use it is salad dressings, dips and other recipes.

Mayonnaise is full of fat and has many hidden calories.

Since it is not eaten alone, many people do not think about the risks of eating it.Even lite mayonnaise is unhealthy and fattening.

4. Creamy Soups

Creamy soups are not a good idea for dieters because the cream base used to make them is full of fat and calories.

If you want to enjoy soup, choose one with a clear broth and make sure there is no added sodium.

5. Boxed Meals

Boxed meals may be cheap and convenient, but they are full of preservatives that can make you gain weight.

If you check the nutrition label you will find that a serving from a boxed meal has a lot more calories than if you would have made the same meal out of fresh ingredients.

6. Cheese

A little bit of cheese is good for you, but you have to be careful that you do not over indulge with it.

Cheese that is made with whole milk contains a lot of fat and many types of cheeses contain salt and preservatives.

All of these things can cause you to bloat and gain weight.

7. Red Meat

Red meat is not healthy, it is often full of fat and it takes a long time for your body to digest it.

It is okay to have small amount of red meat in your diet, but it should only be eaten in moderation even when you aren’t dieting.

8. Whole Milk

Whole milk is full of fat and although you need calcium that comes from milk, you can get it other ways while dieting. Try switching to 1%, 2% or skim milk.

You can drink or use these milks the same as whole milk, but without the added fat.

9. Fast Food

Fast food is irresistible to many people, but it will ruin your diet faster than almost any other food.

Almost all fast food meals are fried in grease and contain large amounts of fat, salt and preservatives.

10. Frozen Meals

Frozen meals can be fast and easy to make, but they are also full of calories that have no nutritional value.

Most frozen meals are also full of sodium which is not healthy and will cause you to retain water.

Don’t let the hard work you put into dieting be in vain. These ten foods are all hard to avoid, but doing so will help you stay healthy and lose those extra pounds.

Cast Members You Should Tip at Disney World-Part 1

Cast Members You Should Tip at Disney World –Part 1

Many people ask, “When is it appropriate to tip someone?”  Tipping can be a touchy subject at Disney World.  Because Disney World is an international destination, it’s important to note that different cultures have different “rules” for tipping.  In the United States, it is customary to tip anyone who serves you.  The amount depends on the situation, but standard tipping is 15-20% of the total bill.  Here is a suggested list of who you should tip on your Disney vacation.

Baggage handlers

As you begin and end your trip, several people are likely to handle your luggage.  My family and I sometimes park offsite at our local airport and take a parking service van over to the airport terminals.  If the driver loads/unloads your bags, consider tipping $1-2 per bag.  If you use curbside baggage drop-off at your airport, double that.  If you fly into Orlando International, you may use Disney’s Magical Express.  In most cases, Disney handles your luggage behind the scenes and gratuity is included, even if you’re present when it’s delivered.  If you choose to retrieve your own luggage and take it aboard Magical Express, tip the driver for loading and unloading it.  Same thing on the return.  If a CastMember assists you with your bags at your hotel, tip them. Usually once you arrive at a Disney resort, a cast member with Bell Services may bring your luggage to your room.  We always tip $1-$2 per bag.

Disney Resort Bellhop

Drivers

As noted above, most guests flying into the Orlando airport use Magical Express if the guest is staying on Disney grounds.  You can tip your driver if you wish, but it’s not necessary.  This is supposed to be a “free” service to onsite guests.  The bus service, Magical Express, is operated by Mears Transportation (an Orlando transportation company).  Most of these drivers do accept and appreciate tips.  If you take a town car, shuttle, taxi or Uber, tip 15-20% each way.  These services are independant contractors.

Magical Express

Grocery delivery

Over the last few years, several grocery delivery services have popped up around Disney World.  If you are staying more than a few days, this can be very helpful.  All Disney hotel rooms have a small refrigerator.  The Vacation Club resorts have full kitchens or kitchenetts.  Be sure to tip anyone who handles your groceries, including those who may temporarily store your groceries and those who deliver to your room.  Some of the grocers allow you to tip online when you place your order.

Groceries

In some cases, Disney Cast Members have been trained to refuse tips.  If that happens, offer up a hearty “Thank You!”  *Bonus tip: You can go to Guest Services and fill out a small form recognizing outstanding CastMember service.  Be sure to get their name!

If you ever want to chat about Disney, come over to Goldwiser in Old Town Spring.  We are open from 10 am to 7 pm Monday through Saturday and located at 1122 Spring Cypress Rd., Spring, TX 77373.  Let’s talk some Disney World! Benefits of Olive Oil for Hair

Benefits of Olive Oil for Hair

Benefits of Olive Oil for Hair

Olive oil is truly a powerhouse when it comes to hair, skin and beauty applications. Its rich, moisturizing properties make it ideal for use on your hair. While you may immediately think of olive oil for cooking, keeping a bottle of olive oil handy in your bathroom can help your hair look healthier, stronger and shinier. Whether you use it as your regular conditioner, a hot oil treatment or as a hair finishing product, your mane is bound to reap the many benefits of olive oil.

VIDEO OF THE DAY

Less Dandruff

Olive oil mixed with lemon juice can help treat dandruff.

Olive oil mixed with lemon juice can help treat problem dandruff. Usually caused by dry, flaky skin, the acidic lemon juice helps loosen dandruff while the olive oil moisturizes the new, exfoliated layer of skin. Mix equal amounts of olive oil, lemon juice and water – a few tablespoons of each should suffice. Massage into damp scalp, leave on for 20 minutes, rinse and shampoo. Use this flake-fighting treatment no more than every other week.

Split Ender

Olive oil can help add weight and moisture to dry hair during winter months.

In the dry winter months, your hair is more prone to breakage, splitting and frizzy flyaways that make your sleek haircut look messy and unkempt. A little olive oil can help smooth away some of those problems. It adds weight and moisture to the hair, and is ideal as a quick fix. Just smooth a little olive oil on your fingers and run them through your hair after you’ve styled it to give your ends and flyaways the kiss off.

Strength and Shine

Consider replacing your regular conditioner with olive oil.

Replace your regular conditioner with olive oil to help bring moisture back to the hair, leaving it healthy-looking and shiny. Rich in vitamins A, E and antioxidants, olive oil helps protect the keratin in hair and seals in moisture. According to Elle, olive oil can remove the buildup of sebum that impedes the formation of new hair follicles and hinders hair growth.

Manageability

Treating your hair with olive oil will make it easier to style.

Dry, undernourished hair is often hard to style. It won’t hold a curl, and straightening only dries it out further, leaving it lifeless. A hot oil treatment featuring olive oil will help you gain manageability so your hair is easier to style, notes PioneerThinking.com contribute Sharon Hopkins. Coat your hair in a half cup of olive oil and leaving for 30 minutes can give your hair the moisture it needs to return it to a more manageable state.

Extra Softness

Olive oil can help heal brittle ends and frizzy curls.

If you deal with brittle ends or frizzy curls that feel more like steel wool than they do soft locks, olive oil can help soften your hair, making it more pliable. A natural, deep conditioning treatment of olive oil each week can replace the extra silicone ingredients used in conditioners that give your hair a false feeling of softness of for a few hours.

Disney H2O Glow Nights – Part 2

  • Separate your night into wet and dry. Before diving in, stow your suits in a locker while you eat dinner and mingle with characters. With this approach, you’ll be nice and dry AND have your phone or camera with you for pictures throughout the fun. Then start splashin’ and slidin’ for the rest of the night!
  • Grown-ups: Hop on over to the 21+ area, The Wharf, for signature refreshments such as Fred’s Purple Siren. Sip on these yummy cocktails while enjoying live music with a calmer vibe than the rest of the party.
  • Wear your MagicBands! You’ll be able to scan them with PhotoPass photographers when you meet with Buzz, Woody and Jessie to see later in your MyDisneyExperience app. (If you don’t have Magic Bands, the photographer will give you a PhotoPass card you can wear around your wrist.)
  • Make the most of your ticket and arrive when “doors open” at 7 p.m. While the party doesn’t officially start until 8 p.m., this gives you a head start on rides.
  • Party capacity is limited, and we found the low crowds in the park to be a huge plus. Not only does this mean shorter lines, but an overall more relaxing experience than during the day. No fighting over beach chairs here!

H2O Glow Nights Typhoon Lagoon - Burger and Fries

  • Try out the signature party exclusive menu item, the Impossible™ Burger! This vegan patty topped with banana peppers is delish, especially if you get an adults-only Green Glowrita to drink.
  • Take advantage of the low wait times. In the time you have at the park, you can easily ride every slide (They’re ALL open!) and still have time for all of the party fun. Miss Adventure Falls is a personal favorite.
  • Get your groove on with a fun dance party hosted by Partysaurus Rex (and a live DJ) on the sands of the wave pool. There are fun, interactive games and tons of good tunes.
  • Be sure to visit with the characters! The wait times are super short, which means the characters spend more time interacting. (Woody, Jessie and Buzz told us how excited they are about Toy Story Land.)
  • Note: Food and beverage is not included in the ticket price, but the rest of the fun is!
  • Some may wonder if the weather is still waterpark-worthy after dark, and we promise the answer is YES! The wave pool and water slides feel just as refreshing in the evening, when heat and humidity levels are still high.
disney h2o glow nights - Woody and Jessie

Many of you visiting Walt Disney World this summer are probably wondering if Disney H2O Glow Nights is worth the price of admission. By and large, I think the answer is yes! It’s an especially busy summer in the parks, and Glow Nights will be a great way to have fun with fewer crowds, especially if you don’t mind the kiddos staying up a little later. It’s a great add-on for those of you making first-time visits who may not be planning on hitting the water parks otherwise.

While some of us enjoy nothing more than to bask in the sun, it’s awesome to have the option of visiting when the sun goes down and when lines are short for an absolutely action-packed night. Being able to tackle every attraction in Typhoon Lagoon in a matter of hours makes this event worth it alone! However, other favorite parts were certainly the extras, like meeting our Toy Story faves under the stars, with less than a 10-minute wait!

Even if you are already planning on the Park Hopper with Plus Option (which allows you to hit up the water parks for the same number of days as the ticket), you might still want to hop on Disney H2O Glow Nights for an extra special party night at the water park!

If you want to get a full day out of a water park in the sun, this event isn’t for you. If you’ve been to Typhoon Lagoon before and want minimal waits, nighttime in a gorgeously themed park, and the best wave pool experience ever, this event can’t be recommended enough.  Enjoy!!!

baking soda benefits

You may agree; we all have a box of baking soda, which is barely used and is tucked in a corner of the kitchen shelf. Woody’s Lunch Box in Toy Story Land – Part 1

Woody’s Lunch Box in Toy Story Land – Part 1

The much-anticipated Toy Story Land has opened to huge crowds and much fanfare at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Alongside Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers, the land features a new quick service location to satisfy your hunger throughout the day: Woody’s Lunch Box.

It’s located centrally in the land, on the left-hand side as you walk from the entrance, just past Toy Story Mania. It is an outdoor quick service location — you’ll queue up outside to order, pick up your food from the windows, and then find a seat at one of the neighboring tables (some featuring much-needed shade from umbrellas).

Woody’s Lunch Box, like most quick service locations across Walt Disney World, features mobile order functionality through the My Disney Experience app  (it’s super fast and easy!).  Take advantage of the Disney Experience App to make your order if you do not need to request any special foods because of dietary concerns – it saves so much time!

Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios

The theme of the restaurant is pretty self-explanatory based on its name – it’s actually Woody’s Lunch Box! Yes, its just like an old style square lunch box — the lunch box lid is open and serves as an awning. There are a few neat touches like the thermos serving as a pillar on one side of the lunch box lid awning and from a nearby tower, green army men stand ready watching for Andy’s return.

Woody’s Lunch Box Menu

Toy Story Land opened on June 30, 2018, and along with its two new rides comes a walk-up window called Woody’s Lunch Box.  The menu will offer classic sandwiches and snacks for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“Everyone has a special food memory, so it can be tricky putting a modern spin on the favorites,” explained Lenny DeGeorge, Concept Development Culinary Director for Walt Disney World, about the year-long menu development process.  “We honored these classic dishes by using the best ingredients to elevate the flavors. How we constructed the sandwiches was important, such as layering the ingredients in a specific order, to maximize textures and flavors. Why have a cold sandwich when you can have a toasted hot, gooey cheese-filled one?”

Woody’s Lunch Box offers something for breakfast, lunch and dinner, open from park open to park close – and it is on the Disney Dining Plan.

Alien Swirling Saucers at Toy Story Land

Alien Swirling Saucers at Toy Story Land

toy story land alien saucers ride

Here’s a short recap about the newest attraction at Hollywood Studios, Alien Swirling Saucers.  An employee from The Insider rode and reviewed this ride on Opening Day.

  • The Alien Swirling Saucers ride opened Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Toy Story Land in Disney World’s Hollywood Studios.
  • INSIDER was there to try out the attraction opening day.
  • Guests sit in little spaceships that are pulled around four circular tracks by the “Toy Story” aliens.
  • If you like the Mad Tea Cup Ride at Magic Kingdom, this is similar. But you don’t get to spin your spaceship around.
  • Some gentle whips from side to side add enough of an unexpected jolt to make the ride worth it.
  • The reviewer waited 80 minutes for this ride.  The ride that lasts about two minutes.

The verdict? It’s definitely a cute ride, but it’s not worth waiting hours to try out.

If you have a little one with you, be prepared to carry them or have them walk. All strollers need to be parked outside the ride and aren’t allowed into the queue.

alien saucer ride toy story land

If you have little ones with you, make sure you have something to keep them occupied. There are fun painted walls and another one featuring buttons that look like you can press, but they’re just static wall decorations.

A lot of Toy Story Land doesn’t have shade. You’ll see a lot of colorful umbrellas around the area to offer some relief from the heat and to offer protection from incoming rain.  While the beginning of the ride has no covering to shield from the sun, the majority of the line is under coverage. Another plus? There are plenty of fans inside and out scattered throughout the ride to keep fans cool on a hot day. Water fountains are in the queue line, too.

If you’ve been on the spinning Mad Tea Party tea cups in Magic Kingdom, this new Toy Story Land ride will feel very familiar to you.

Note when you get inside your little spaceship, you may expect to start spinning it around. That’s not the case here. You have no control over the cart. Your spaceship is connected to an alien in a saucer who guides and spins you around four different large circles.

toy story land alien saucer

One other difference is that the attraction is large enough to have two sets of riders moving at once on spaceships so that double the number of guests can get through the ride at once. I entered on the left side of the ride which can accommodate 11 pairs or small groups of people. Each spaceship seats one to three individuals comfortably.

Every so often your alien guide will whip your cart from one side to the other. It was just the right amount of a jolt to keep a rider smiling. Otherwise, the ride would have been a really tame tea cup replicate.

The Alien Swirling Saucers is definitely a kid ride meant to do with parents. Everyone  looked like they had a good time. But because of the short time you get to spend on the actual attraction, avoiding a longer line by nabbing a FastPass or heading to it first thing in the morning. And if neither of those work, you can always head straight there when it starts raining. Just remember to pack a poncho.
