Sotheby’s Hong Kong will host its autumn Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite auction next week, and the offering includes a contemporary fine jewelry collection from Chinese jeweler Anna Hu. Anna Hu always loved jewelry and gemstones but wanted to become a cellist. But because of a severe shoulder injury, she turned to her second love, jewelry.

Five pieces have been commissioned for the auction at Sotheby’s Hong Kong. It is called the Silk Road Collection. The silk road referring to an ancient trade route dating back for centuries. This also refers to the cultural and musical exchanges that occurred on the Silk Road.

Her passion for music and western art inspired the collection. The love of music is clearly visible in these pieces. Her creations seem to float through the air, they are very lyrical as well. Stunning is the word. She is a truly gifted designer.

The headliner in the collection is the Dunhuang Pipa necklace 100.72 carat yellow diamond set in white gold and white diamonds. It can be worn as a necklace or brooch. The entire collection has an estimated value of $5 million to $6.25 million. The necklace was inspired by a Pi-pa a four string Chinese lute which lends its silhouette to the necklace.

Her jewelry has been worn by Royalty as well as the entertainment world. Her pieces are truly unique. The auction starts Monday, October 7, 2019 at 2:30 pm HKT. Thank you to JCK magazine, Amy Elliott.
